Privacy Policy

Miyabi Travel Journal (“Miyabi”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a local-first travel journal for planning and remembering Japan trips. This Privacy Policy explains how Miyabi handles information when you use the app.
Short Version
Miyabi does not require an account. We do not operate a server for your trip journal, and we do not collect, sell, rent, or share your personal data. Your travel entries, notes, ratings, itinerary cards, backups, and app preferences are stored locally on your device unless you choose to export, share, or send them somewhere else.
Information You Add to the App
Miyabi lets you enter and save travel information such as:
- ryokan, restaurant, and attraction names
- addresses, prefectures, cities, coordinates, websites, and phone numbers
- trip dates, times, ratings, reviews, notes, reservation details, room and meal details, cuisine details, attraction categories, and itinerary card settings
- app preferences, including map, display, date, badge, and wallet preferences
This information is stored locally on your device using device storage. We do not receive this information and we do not have access to it.
Data We Collect
We do not collect personal data from Miyabi.
Miyabi does not include developer-operated analytics, advertising, tracking, crash-reporting, account, subscription, newsletter, or telemetry services in the current app implementation.
Backups, Exports, and Sharing
Miyabi includes optional export, import, and sharing features. When you export a backup, create a PDF, create an image, copy text, export Markdown, or use a system share sheet, the app creates the file or text on your device and lets you choose what to do with it.
If you choose to share, upload, save, message, email, print, or otherwise send exported content to another app or service, that destination app or service may process the content under its own privacy policy. We do not control those third-party destinations and we do not receive a copy of what you share.
Geocoding, Maps, Links, and Device Services
Miyabi can use platform and device features to support app functionality:
- Coordinate resolution: If you tap a coordinate resolution action, Miyabi sends the place query you entered to the platform-native geocoding service so it can return coordinates. The returned coordinates may be saved locally in your journal if you choose to use them.
- Map display: The app displays maps through the device map framework. Map rendering may be provided by Apple Maps, Google Maps, or platform map services depending on your device and configuration.
- External links: If you open a website, phone link, or map/directions link, Miyabi passes that action to the operating system or the selected external app.
- Files and documents: Backup import/export and itinerary sharing use system file, document picker, print, and share sheet features.
These services are provided by the operating system or the destination apps and services. We do not receive data from those services. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies and settings.
Location Permissions
Miyabi does not request access to your current location for the iOS app. The app is designed around places you manually enter, choose from seed data, or resolve through explicit geocoding actions.
Tracking, Advertising, and Sale of Data
Miyabi does not track you across apps or websites. Miyabi does not show ads. Miyabi does not sell or rent personal data.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because your journal data is stored locally on your device, it remains there until you edit it, delete it, reset the app data, uninstall the app, or remove exported backup/share files yourself.
You can delete individual entries in the app. You can also reset local app data from Settings. If you exported backups, shared files, or sent content to another app or service, you must delete those external copies from the destination location separately.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if Miyabi’s features or data practices change. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and publish the updated policy at this URL.
